Custom business software
Emergent Computing was founded to solve specialised business problems by creating customised software, and setting up existing software in a customised way.
We create entirely customised products especially for your business. We go where off-the-shelf products can't, using detailed knowledge of your business to produce a streamlined system with lean and mean performance.
We love automating business processes. We love letting computers learn from your business data. We love creating user interfaces that really work for you and your staff. And we especially love solving those problems unique to your business.
You don't have to know exactly what you want before you call us; we can arrange to talk about your business and bounce some ideas around. All consultations are performed in strict confidence.
About Us
Hi! My name is Oran Fry, creator of Emergent Computing.
I've had a lifelong interest in computers; I started programming at age nine and ran a web development business from seventeen.
My tertiary education is in Cognitive Science - a mix of Computer Science, Psychology, Linguistics and Philosophy (with an A+ average). This gives me a fuller understanding than Computer Science alone; as well as the technical details, I understand the human element of software design.
I love to code. I can program in at least ten programming languages, and I'm always looking for new ways to program better.
But I also love getting away from the keyboard and matching real-world problems with IT solutions. The opportunities to let computers help us are manifold, and I've made a business out of finding and exploiting these opportunities.

But, here is a script that can recurse through a directory and include all the class files, in the right order! [...]
Today I thought I’d fire off a query to get customers next birthday, to send them a birthday reminder if it’s coming up. I quickly became aware of some caveats. [...]
This is a book about the first moments of any encounter. It explains the amazing ability of the subconscious mind to infer a wealth of information from even the thinest slice of experience. Experts can spot a fake statue within seconds of seeing it, predict the success of a marriage by watching a couple chat, or identify a bird after a sighting of only a few seconds at great distance. We can all tell if we like someone in the first few minutes of talking with them, and we can tell what a person is thinking by looking at their face. [...]
